Right to Recall MPs Petition

During the run up to the election this year all three major parties stated that they wanted to help improve the image of politics and politicians in this country. One of the “reforms” that was discussed was giving voters the right to recall their MP.

The coalition agreement between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats makes mention of this reform:

The parties will bring forward early legislation to introduce a power of recall, allowing voters to force a by-election where an MP was found to have engaged in serious wrongdoing and having had a petition calling for a by-election signed by 10% of his or her constituents.

This petition has been set up to serve as a reminder to the government that they have promised us this reform, both during the election campaign and now in their coalition agreement. We are calling on them to legislate this change at the earliest opportunity.
