Please find below a quick representation of the Legg Report. While every care has been taken to be as accurate as possible some errors may have sneaked in. If you find any please let us know.
A few observations first. The biggest one being this: Jim Devine, David Chaytor, and Elliot Morley do appear in the Legg Report (As do all MPs), however Mr Legg found no issue with their expenses. Rather strange when you consider they have all been charged with false accounting. Our conclusion therefore is that quite possibly, the Legg Report is not worth the paper it’s written on. It’s achieved nothing, and that nothing has cost the taxpayer over £1 million. Scary stuff indeed.
The second observation, for those of you who have not seen the report. It includes those MPs who are no longer serving their constituents. A quick glance at the list of ex-MP’s and one stands out in particular. John Lyons, previous MP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden was overpaid over £18 800 and that amount has not been recovered, nor has he answered any correspondence from Mr Legg’s office. There are one or two more old MPs that were overpaid more than £10 000. At a later date we will publish said list with more details.
The third observation is that a vast majority of MPs were overpaid due to mortgage interest. That comes from the change in rules (The retrospective rule changes made by Mr Legg), whether MPs deem it fair or not, the vast majority have paid those amounts back. So credit where credit is due. However that said, many MPs have very high overclaims for cleaning, gardening, and maintenance, most of whom have paid back those overpayments, but a quick glance at the list below will show you that some amounts were rather extortionate, which raises the question: Are they providing value for money to the taxpayer as outlined in The Green Book? We think not!
The final observation is this: Why did these MPs not notice they had been overpaid? Some of them were overpaid thousands if not tens of thousands of Pounds, surely they should have noticed? Some of these overpayments date back a number of years. Were they hoping they would never be caught? It does make you wonder.
You can now send a Removal of Goods Notice to any MP that was found to have over claimed according to the Legg Report in a few easy steps. Find the over claimer in the list below, click the Print a Letter Button and you will be taken to a web page where you can print the letter off via your browser. Not only will this letter infuriate them it may also help raise funds for two very worthwhile charities: Help for Heroes and the NSPCC. All it will cost you is the price of a stamp and an envelope! Well worth it!
